What could I be involved in as a Science and Engineering Fast Streamer?
Whatever your scientific or engineering background, you can help shape government policy and decision-making. You’ll build and broaden your expertise and creativity across a range of postings, in both operational and policy teams, working on addressing highly complex issues like artificial intelligence and climate change. You could also be involved in horizon scanning, identifying future trends and patterns of emerging technologies. Wherever you’re based across a range of postings, you’ll build relationships with industry partners, academia, and science and engineering bodies.
Training includes:
As well as core training from the Cabinet Office, you’ll have specialist training linked to the Government Science and Engineering Profession’s career framework. This includes bespoke development opportunities addressing your specific learning needs, along with support to gain membership and chartership of external professional institutions.
To apply, you’ll need:
• Eligibility to work in the UK.
•
Hold a postgraduate degree in any science or engineering discipline, or
be a chartered engineer or scientist registered by one of the
professional institutions licensed by the Engineering Council or by the
Science Council. For Integrated Masters you need, or expect to have, a
2:1 or higher.
• You also need, or expect to have, before the start
of the programme, a 2:1 or higher undergraduate degree in any subject
including degree apprenticeships
• You must have secured your
postgraduate degree before you start the programme
