Graduate Careers at Glencore UK

Based in our fast-paced London office, our programmes are designed to accelerate the careers of outstanding graduates who have a strong commercial outlook and a genuine interest in energy commodities trading. Our graduate roles combine structured, professional development with on-the-job experience – successful candidates will have direct exposure to the commercial teams and will be trusted to take on responsibility from day one.

The Risk Graduate Programme

Our Risk team is an independent function, working closely with the energy division trading desks to make sure that the risk-reward of our trading books are properly balanced. Graduates who enter this team have the chance to work across three areas – product risk, market risk, and credit risk. Risk managers maintain physical and derivative exposure whilst assessing the

accuracy and validity of mark-to-markets in order to produce profit and loss reports and risk metrics. They provide analysis, ensuring that hedging is executed in line with our trading team’s strategy.

Your role

  • Calculate and run daily risk reports, including the desk’s P&L, and conduct analysis on trading books of commodities in our energy division.
  • Communicate results effectively with traders and senior management.
  • To proactively identify and communicate issues that may cause a surprise, and that reports & measurements accurately reflect this
  • Undertake assessments of large transactions to help with the representation of implied risks or optionality.

  • Generate additional value using your initiative, commercial innovation and entrepreneurial flair.

Who we look for

We look for recent graduates with an excellent track record of individual achievement – who are interested in a challenging, exciting career in the commodities sector. Accuracy, confidence and exceptional analytical skills are key attributes in this area of our business, and an aptitude to use and learn a coding language is an advantage.

As a key member of the risk team, excellent communication and relationship
