Kent County Council's graduate scheme empowers graduate innovation in the public sector.
Kent County Council is one of the largest councils in the United Kingdom with 1.4 million residents. Graduates on the council's Management Graduate Scheme say the programme enables them to make significant improvements to services.
Lucy Campbell studied History at the University of Cambridge and joined the council's graduate programme in 2015 eager to take on the challenges of public service.
"I knew I wanted to work within the public sector," she says. "Job satisfaction was a priority, but working to improve the lives of others would both fulfil and challenge me."
"Kent represented an exciting opportunity as one of the largest councils in the country, which was continuing to deliver good services despite national financial challenges."
Megan Brackenborough took Education Studies at Canterbury Christ Church University before joining Kent County Council in September last year. She says the council takes an innovative approach in the face of government cuts.
"I knew that I would find a career within the public sector incredibly rewarding, particularly within Kent where the work I would carry out would have a positive impact on my own local community," she says.
"Kent County Council is very much a forward-thinking authority. I thrive on this challenge, and within the graduate programme you are given early responsibility within the placements that you just would not get anywhere else."
