What could I be involved in as a Government Operational Research Service Fast Streamer?

Operational Research is the discipline of applying advanced analytical methods to help make better policy decisions. On this scheme you’ll use your creativity, as well as scientific and mathematical techniques, to assess situations and how different changes might affect them. Supporting all areas of government, including policy-making, strategy and operations, your work will help improve lives across the UK.

Training includes:

Starting with a two-day residential induction course, you’ll have ongoing access to a range of courses to develop your professional and wider leadership and management skills. In addition to completing the Fast Stream core curriculum, you’ll benefit from a programme of cross-government events and conferences and support to achieve professional accreditation by the OR Society.


To apply, you’ll need:
•  Eligibility to work in the UK.
•  A 2:1 or higher (or be expecting to achieve this) in your undergraduate degree or a 2:2 with a postgraduate degree, in a qualifying degree subject. A qualifying degree is one containing substantial social research methods training (comprising one third of the course modules).
•  Alternatively you can apply through the experience route, with: A 2:1 or higher or 2:2 with a postgraduate degree, in any subject – plus at least 4 years’ social research practice experience gained working in a research agency, market research agency or other specialist research team.
