When it comes graduates, HP means business

Despite being recognised worldwide for its cutting edge and high performance computers and technology, when it comes to graduates HP means business.

Hewlett Packard, or HP as it is more commonly known nowadays, is a household name as far as computers and technology goes. They have built a worldwide reputation for excellence and cutting edge products, but what is not acknowledged as much is its first rate business teams.

Building up such a large technology organisation has required countless employees working to enable the products to be enjoyed by customers and clients and this is where HP is now turning to graduates.

HP are looking to fill a range of graduate business-related schemes to keep the company at the forefront of this industry. They have opened programmes in Sales and Business to try and entice graduates to meet the challenge of working for such a prestigious organisation. The two schemes are traditionally 24 months in length and will expose graduates to the difficulties, challenges and rewards experienced at HP.

Graduate Catherine Miller, who works in Bid Support, spoke about her experiences working for the company. Miller said 'I'd already completed the intern programme and knew that there were a lot of opportunities to take my career to the next level with HP - the decision to join the graduate programme was easy.'

'I work in bid support, which means customers come to us when they require a solution and we put together a proposal and a pricing structure. You're given a lot of responsibility, pretty much straight away and that's combined with the freedom to develop in your role and support from your peers and colleagues to reach your goals.'

'Going forward, what I'm excited about is being able to develop my knowledge of HP - the organisation, the products and services and the people.'

Kyle Younger, another business-focused employee on the graduate programme, said 'I work in Global Procurement. It's a rotational programme so I move to a different function every six months and get to see projects that go across the globe. I've worked with the global team on their initiatives, which covered Europe, Africa and the Americas.'

'I've also supported the worldwide marketing team and now I'm the lead for the agency contractor project for the UK and Ireland. What I find fascinating is how everything joins up - how a global organisation operates.'

Younger added 'As part of the scheme, you're also given a lot of projects that push you to increase your personal skills. I'm preparing to head out to the US to give a presentation to the Senior Global Vice President on my achievements so far in the programme.'
