Graduates enjoy making headlines with their work at the Bank of England, according to graduate.
The Bank of England is at the heart of the UK economy-and graduates are helping them make headlines. The bank's Graduate Development Programme allows graduates to make an impact on national issues relating to the economy, rewarding work for one graduate.
Iain Ramsey, a Geography graduate from the London School of Economics on BOE's Development Scheme, says having such an impact is a gratifying part of the job.
"It's always satisfying to read or hear about the Bank of England in the news and know that you are involved in the work of such an important institution," he says.
"For example, the Governor has committed to allowing broker-dealers access to some SMF facilities and I've been involved in that project from a systems side. It's a high profile project within the Bank, and it's required a lot of meetings and discussions both internally and externally to discover if, and how, this might work."
Another graduate, Grainne McGread, believes the work they undertake on the scheme is for the benefit of the UK. A Natural Sciences graduate from the University of Cambridge, Grainne says she enjoys contributing to significant policy decisions.
"I really enjoy the feeling of contributing to the 'public good'," she says. "My role is more immediate than some others in this respect, as I'm part of the team that risk manages the UK Official Reserves. Related to this, I enjoy the challenging work I've been trusted with."
Graduates looking to help keep the UK economy on the road to recovery should see if they can make positive news on the Bank of England's Graduate Development programme.
