Skills and career growth are quick deliveries for graduates at Royal Mail.
Iconic postal delivery service Royal Mail has been in operation in the UK for over 500 years. Thriving on quick and reliable service for their customers, Royal Mail expects graduates joining their schemes to get up to speed and take on responsibility straight away.
Emily Scott joined Royal Mail's Operations Management Programme after studying History at the University of Leeds. She is now based at the Wakefield Distribution Centre and says she's felt valued since her first day.
"I was given hands on experience from day one, and the trust they put in me was just brilliant-that's absolutely the best thing about the scheme."
"I was really attracted by the programme because there was a clear career path on offer and you could see where it would take you," she says. "I also knew that at a company as big as Royal Mail there would be good opportunities for progression and I really liked the idea of learning on the job."
The Operations Management Programme offers fundamental support to everything Royal Mail does, from running distribution centres to overseeing postwomen and men. Emily says day-to-day life on the scheme is always unpredictable and exciting.
"It's one of those jobs where you can't be prepared for everything, especially when you're managing a team of people, but I quickly learnt how to think on my feet and tackle any challenges head on."
"I learnt so much in such a short amount of time," she says. "My progression in this role was fast and the level of support I was given was fantastic."
