There are plenty of options for you with a STEM degree, but we've narrowed it down to five different career paths that you could consider: research and development, engineering, IT, teaching, and medical. Let's take a closer look at each of these options.
Research and Development
If you're the type of person who loves to experiment and tinker with new ideas, then a career in research and development might be perfect for you. In this field, you'll be working on developing new products or improving existing ones. You might also be responsible for testing products to see how they perform under different conditions, so it's a great option if you love getting hands-on with your work.
Engineering
Engineers play an important role in making sure that everything we use every day works well and is safe to use. If you have an engineering degree, you'll be responsible for designing things like bridges or buildings, and also testing them to make sure they meet safety standards. You might also work on developing new technology or improving old technology.
IT
Information Technology is a rapidly growing field, and so it's no surprise that there are plenty of career opportunities available for IT graduates. In this role, you could be responsible for everything from maintaining computer networks to developing software programs. It's also a good option if you enjoy working with people since IT roles typically involve interacting with others.
Teaching
If you have an interest in helping others learn and develop their skills, then teaching could be the right career path for you. With your STEM degree, you can become a teacher at elementary school level or even high school level. You could also choose to specialise in a particular area of STEM by becoming an engineering or medical teacher for example.
Medical
Finally, if you're interested in working with people and have a passion for science then perhaps medicine might be the right career path for you? Doctors are needed everywhere, so there's always plenty of work available for medical graduates. If you want to specialise further, then there are plenty of other options as well such as becoming an anaesthetist or a surgeon.
